My name is Christos, I am a trainee counsellor at CPPD, currently in my second year (Diploma in Integrative Humanistic Counselling). I am a student member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS).
I earned my degree in Psychology (BSc) at the University of Hertfordshire. During my mandatory military service, I worked as a Military Psychologist. Subsequently I completed a Master’s degree (MSc) in Forensic Psychology at the University of Kent. After my MSc I worked for seven years at a clinic for Forensic Psychiatry and Psychotherapy in Germany, where I gained a deep knowledge and experience in areas that presented complex needs. I currently work in the UK in the mental health sector within the Criminal Justice System.
During our sessions you can expect a non-judgemental and empathic approach, in which you as an individual and your individual needs will be respected and recognized. I follow a non-directive approach, based on the premise that you, the client, are the expert when it comes to yourself and possess all the necessary resources to facilitate change, which we will try to unlock during our sessions together.
My approach is relational, focusing in the relationship between the client and the counsellor. While techniques and therapeutic methods are of great importance, I believe that therapy can achieve significant results only through a positive therapeutic relationship. While being a professional engagement between a client and a practitioner, at its core, therapy remains a human encounter, that has to include mutual respect, trust and caring.
The main areas of my interest are grief/bereavement, addiction, self-esteem, and depression. My approach is mainly Psychodynamic/Analytical, however, I also have hands-on experience in CBT interventions and psychoeducation to address issues such as anxiety and anger management. I do not believe in a ‘’one size fits them all’’ approach, thus I always try to adjust my therapeutic style to the client’s needs.
If you are experiencing challenges in your life and believe that talking to someone would help you increase your quality of life through personal growth and resilience, then please do not hesitate to contact me. Finally, please keep in mind that you will be talking to another human being that has also faced his own ‘’demons’’ throughout life and is eager to understand and connect to his clients.
